Wastewater is closely regulated by federal and state guidelines. Our wastewater system currently meets all bay and ocean water quality regulations now, but these requirements may change in the future as new pollutants emerge. As a City, we must be prepared and try to anticipate these changes. It is likely requirements for discharge into San Francisco Bay may become even stricter in the coming years.  Our master plan will evaluate potential future changes in regulations and how these might be addressed.
